Q&A with Kate Christiensen

This week’s Q&A is with Warwick identity Kate Christensen. Locals might know Kate for her work at the Warwick Show and Rodeo Society and BUSHkids. Thanks for your insight, Kate!

If you could spend 24 hours anywhere, any year, where would you choose?

This is a tough one to start up with. I would have love to have seen Queen Elizabeth II coronation and the pomp and ceremony that went along with that. I think that would have been something to behold, particularly in light of her recent passing.

What is something people may not know about you?

Most would know that I worked in Montana, USA in 2008 and 2009. Few would probably know that I worked for the family of former World Champion Team Roper (in 2005) Clay Tryan. In 2008 I worked with his Aunt Linda and her Husband Marvin, and in 2009 I worked for his Grandpa, Billy Tryan. I found out that it’s not what you know, but who you know on the rodeo circuit over there, as thanks to Clay and his family, I was able to attend the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in 2008 and I was also able to attend a team roping clinic with Clay Tryan, and his brother Travis. Travis had also just won the George Straight International Team Roping Championship in the weeks prior to me attending their team roping clinic as a fence sitter.

How do you relax after a long day?

Depending on how much relaxing needs to be done after a long day, either soaking in a hot bubble bath after a tough physical or stressful day, or hanging out with my horses and dogs for a good chill out.

What are you most grateful for?

My family. In particular, my parents and brothers. We’re a tight knit family who support each other no matter what. We haven’t had the easiest journey through life, but we’re always there for each other.

What would your last meal on earth be?

I love a good Rib Fillet Steak, so you couldn’t go wrong with that as your last meal.

Do you prefer Coffee or Tea?

Most definitely coffeeE. Those that know me well know I don’t function very well without it and that it’s best not to talk to me in the morning until I’ve had that first cup. Coffee is the nectar of life.

What are you currently reading and what’s the best book you’ve ever read?

Currently reading the Harry Potter series to keep up with my daughter who is a Harry Potter nut!

What’s you’re favourite spot in our region?

I can’t say I have a specific place in the region that is my favourite. I just love our wide open spaces, the beautiful farmland and the views from my front veranda. Also, you can’t go wrong when you’re attending “Australia’s Most Famous” Rodeo, the Warwick Rodeo.

What is the best piece of advise you have ever received?

Mine comes from a Chris Ledoux Song –

“Sit tall in the saddle, Hold your head up high

Keep your eyes fixed where the trail meets the sky

And live like you ain’t afraid to die

And don’t be scared, just enjoy your ride”

Which six guests, dead or alive, would be invited to your ultimate dinner party?

Queen Elizabeth II

Chris Ledoux

Winston Churchill

Lane Frost

Amelia Earhart

My Dad, John Skinner, cause he’d know all the questions to ask the awesome people

What is your favourite movie?

I love a good Rom Com – Sweet Home Alabama. My daughter would also like me to say the Harry Potter series.
