Helping build a better world for women and girls

Zonta International has a number of advocacy and service projects that help to build a better world for women and girls, which Zonta Stanthorpe support, as a member of this global organization. More information on ZI projects can be found at www.zonta.org/Web/Our_Programs/Web/Our_Programs_Home.aspx

Zonta Stanthorpe members actively participate in Australian Zonta projects such as assembling birthing kits distributed to third-world countries by the Birthing Kit Foundation of Australia. The 200 kits that club members assembled in May went to Nigeria.

Locally, Zonta Stanthorpe gives financial support to organisations that assist vulnerable women and children, Warwick Safe Haven, Protea Place Women’s Support Centre Warwick and the Granite Belt Neighbourhood Centre.

Recently our Advocacy Chair Sandy Venn-Brown has been working with Jennifer Leigh OAM, Granite Belt Neighbourhood Centre service manager, to expand on our involvement with them, which currently includes donations of items to their food bank and financial support.

One of the initiatives from these conversations is our Zonta Stanthorpe Welcome Pack for the 52-plus babies delivered at Stanthorpe Maternity each year.

Items included in these packs are samples of nappies, baby wipes, soap/lotion, an item of clothing or a wrap and information on GBNC Baby and Me program run by Josephine Yule and Bec Telfer.

Zonta Stanthorpe wish to acknowledge the kind donations from Luvme, Washpool, Valerie Pearson and Boomerang Bags.

Recently Zonta Stanthorpe President Desleigh Volpato and Advocacy Chair Sandy Venn-Brown delivered the first 20 packs to Stanthorpe Health Services Mid-wife Tracy Gunnlaugsson.

To raise funds to enable us to financially support our service and advocacy projects Zonta Stanthorpe will be selling cheese platter boxes at the Murphy’s Pigs event on Saturday, 9 September.
