Intergenerational connections

In a heartwarming display of talent and community engagement, students from St Mary’s Primary School’s Drama club took to the stage at the Churches of Christ Campus auditorium on Monday 24 July.

The event, which saw the participation of residents, retirement living residents, and parents, showcased the students’ exceptional recitation of original bush poetry.

The performance was not only a testament to the students’ creativity and dedication but also an opportunity for them to shine on a larger platform. Some pieces performed during the event have even been entered into the Ekka’s Bush Poetry competition.

Following this, the Choral verse speaking group took the stage, treating the audience to two mesmerizing performances. The children’s voices left the audience in awe of their talent and passion.

One of the highlights of the evening was the chance for the children to interact with the residents.

After the performances, the students had the opportunity to meet and chat with the residents, fostering a sense of connection and bridging the generational gap.

Ann Hichens, a resident, expressed her delight, “it’s so lovely to see such well-mannered, well-behaved, and talented children,“ she said.

The success of the event has prompted Teacher Catriona Lawson to offer a return visit with her group to perform the Nativity Liturgy at the end of the year.

The St Mary’s Primary School Drama Club’s performance showcased the students’ artistic abilities and served as a reminder of the power of community engagement and intergenerational connections. The sessions take place in a warm, indoor pool and the participants are taken on a meditative journey, guided by the energies present in the space.
