Polly is a two-year-old Maremma Sheepdog with a gentle and affectionate nature and an overriding desire for human company.
Born on 8 September 2021, she weighs just 23kgs so is quite petite for the breed.
Maremma Sheepdogs are calm and protective dogs by nature and Polly is no different. The photos were taken in our vet surgery on the day of her desexing. She was relaxed in that busy environment and receptive to attention from kindly strangers i.e., our photographer.
Maremmas’ bond strongly with their human family members and can make loyal and dependable companions. They are intelligent dogs and fast learners. Although they have an independent streak – necessary for their function as a guardian of stock – they thrive in a domestic setting with consistent and patient training.
Not overly active, Polly will require daily exercise and mental stimulation to keep her happy and healthy.
With time and patience, she will tolerate dogs after a proper introduction, but would prefer to be the only dog in residence at her home. She is untested with cats.
As always, secure fencing is a must.
Preference will be given to homes where someone is around most of the time. Previous breed experience will be well regarded.
Those interested in meeting Polly and can offer her a suitable, safe and loving forever home, should complete the online adoption application at southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/ and one of our volunteers will be in touch.
Polly is desexed, chipped and vaccinated and her adoption fee is $650.
