Welcome Weary to his forever home

Introducing Ark’s Pet of the Week Weary, a Stumpy-Tail Red Cattle Dog mix born on 14 September, 2022. This adorable pup takes his name from the heroic Colonel Sir (Ernest) Edward “Weary“ Dunlop, an Australian surgeon known for his unwavering dedication to saving sick and dying prisoners of war during World War II in Thailand.

Weary, much like his namesake, possesses a big heart and a gentle nature, making him an ideal companion for children. Currently residing with two little ones, his foster mum attests to his kind and patient demeanour with them.

While Weary gets along with other dogs, he remains uncertain about the cats in his foster home, possibly due to their indifference towards him.

True to his breed, Weary is a loyal boy and would thrive as a family dog or a devoted companion. He naturally feels protective of his loved ones and will sound the alarm with a bark if a stranger approaches his home. However, in backyard play, he expresses his joy through barking, but otherwise, he is a quiet and well-mannered dog.

Weary has already mastered basic commands. He obediently sits on command and responds promptly when called in a controlled environment. His training is aided by his food-oriented nature and eagerness to please. However, to unlock his full potential, ongoing training and guidance will be beneficial.

While Weary walks well on a leash, he can become easily distracted and pull forcefully when something catches his attention. Nevertheless, he is in the process of learning and improving. The sight of approval brings a sparkle to his eyes, and he thrives on positive reinforcement, eagerly responding to phrases like “Good boy, Weary!“

Weary’s affectionate, playful, and sweet-natured personality ensures that he will provide a lifetime of love and devotion to his new family.

He is already house-trained and accustomed to being both an indoor and outdoor dog.

Preference will be given to homes where someone is available most of the time and/or where there is another compatible dog for Weary to play with. Previous experience with Cattle Dogs will be highly regarded.

As always, secure fencing is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of Weary.

If you are interested in meeting Weary and can offer him a suitable, safe, and loving forever home, please complete the online application at southerndownsark.com.au/apply-to-adopt/. An ARK volunteer will be in touch to discuss the next steps.

His adoption fee is $495, which includes his desexing, vaccinations, and microchipping. Weary is ready to find his forever home and shower his new family with unconditional love and companionship.
