Whistle Stop Garden is holding up well in spite of the sudden very dry conditions and its resilience is due to the health of the soil composted here at the garden.
The “Totems of Hope” have been of great interest to the community by bringing in a lot of folk, using our display maps to wander around finding them. The “Happy Pottery” group have also been creating many other whimsical items and placing them in and around the garden they are of special interest to the young and young at heart. We invite you to come to Whistle Stop, wander around and see how many of these magical items you can spot.
As the weather warms the need for volunteers increases even if it is just holding a hose and the joy being with other garden enthusiasts. Our propagator is working hard to keep up with the demand for sale plants. So, we need people who are methodical and gentle to attend to the many plants, both in the hot house or shade house, keeping them watered and free from weeds. These tasks would suit someone who prefers nonphysical activities but is interested in gardening and plants.
Our book shop is also in need of help, our community has been so generous with donations that we are in need of a book lover or two, to sort and categorize our collection.
The task at first seemed doable for our regular volunteers, however with the need for them to attend to the more physical tasks required in our garden has resulted with the books needing help. We would also welcome anyone who likes to help with sales of books and plants and who enjoys conversations with visitors on plants. Opening hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings.
Our Flanders Poppies bloomed early this year, the display all around the garden was incredible but be assured we are collecting seeds and packaging them for sale. If all the seeds sold last year are an indication there must have been poppies blooming all over.
