We’re a great school

Glen Aplin State School, exemplifies the strength of a tight-knit educational community. With our motto “Striving to improve,“ Glen Aplin State School is dedicated to providing an excellent education for all our students.

Principal Yvonne Watt highlights the unique qualities of our small country school, where everyone knows each other, creating a close-knit community. “Being a smaller school means all the children are known to all the staff, and individualised programs can be easily implemented,“ says Mrs Watt. This personalised approach, supported by our multi-age philosophy, allows students to progress at their own pace and achieve success.

We host a free Playgroup every Wednesday that is run by an experienced Teacher-Aide with many years of Early Childhood education experience. We are affiliated with Play Matters and we welcome people from right across the Granite Belt to bring their children along. Our Prep Open Day this year will be held on Wednesday August 7 at 9.15am.

The school’s dedication to excellence is reinforced by the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework, a globally recognized system. Principal Yvonne Watt explains, “The SWPBS framework requires schools to develop proactive systems to define, teach, and support appropriate student behaviours.“ This framework centres on four core expectations for all students:

“I am safe.“ “I am responsible.“ “I am respectful.“ “I am a learner.“

Established in 1887, Glen Aplin State School overlooks the Severn River, surrounded by beautiful bushland and farmland in the Granite Belt. Over the years, the school community has grown to include students from Glen Aplin village and nearby Stanthorpe, all seeking the enriching small school experience. There is a bus available for students that runs from Stanthorpe to Glen Aplin.

Our active P&C is essential to our school’s culture, organizing fundraisers and activities that support our programs. These funds help improve the school, allow students to attend events, and provide financial support for school camps and improvement of infrastructure.
