This month, the highly respected judge for our topic ‘’Looking Up/Looking Down’’, was Tryg Helander. Tryg doesn’t give out honours very easily, so we were all keen to hear Tryg’s comments and suggestions on where improvements could be made. Our members have learnt a great deal from the judges over the years, and we are very grateful for their generosity in sharing their knowledge with us. It has improved our photography significantly.
The ‘’Red Shoes’’, taken by Michelle C (B Grade), really took the Judges eye commenting the photo is marvellous work for any Grade. With its excellent use of diagonals, lighting and excellent composition, this was a worthy Honour.
Trevor, (A Grade) in the right place at the right time, took this incredible shot of an Osprey coming in with a fish securely clamped in its talons. The image is so impressive our Judge thought it might be a trained bird. This was not the case and this clean, sharp as a tack image showing every detail of the bird and it’s catch of the day gained ‘’Fish for Breakfast’’ a Merit.
Michelle F. (B Grade) gained an Honour for her ‘’Round and Round’’, with the image showing a strong keystone effect and fine art feel. It evokes an emotion of uneasiness and is very macabre. As photographers, we try to portray stories, emotions and connections in our photographs which Michelle has managed here.
The fringing rim of light around the koala’s head was an added bonus in Bob’s (B Grade) ‘’Sleepy Koala’’. The keyhole of depth of field that leads to the animal is the best way to showcase it and has been done quite well. Highly Commended.
