Slade fight not over: McKinnon

Save Our Slade co-ordinator Margaret McKinnon will continue fighting for the welfare of Warwick students even though the window of opportunity for Slade Campus is closing fast.
Mrs McKinnon has worked tirelessly on the issue and needs the community to once again show their support for Slade Campus.
She was a member of last Thursday’s delegation to the Department of Education.
Mrs McKinnon thought the State Government’s proposal to build multi-level buildings on an already overcrowded Warwick State High School site was comical if it wasn’t such a serious matter.
She was concerned about the welfare of students not being raised by the government representatives in their discussions last week.
With recent research from the Heart Foundation and Cancer Council showing that 80 per cent of high school students were getting inadequate exercise, Mrs McKinnon was dumbfounded at the proposal to reduce what little open space is available at the school.
“It is a ludicrous situation; it is unbelievable,” she said.
“We still have to try to get rid of the fairy story and face reality.”
The Warwick delegation raised the possibility of the State Government purchasing Slade Campus to alleviate the over-crowding at the high school. It could be used as a middle campus, otherwise, it was suggested that the whole high school could move to Slade Campus over a 10- to 15-year period.
Mrs McKinnon said she would now lobby the new Education Minister Cameron Dick, who was sworn in on Monday.
Mr Dick was unavailable for comment at time of print.
