Spate of Stanthorpe property offences

Given the recent spate of property offences that have occurred in the Stanthorpe area, police urge residents to take precautions to prevent these types of crimes from happening.
Taking simple steps such as securing and removing valuables from your vehicle and securing your house even whilst you are at home will make a difference.
On August 5, Stanthorpe Police received reports of a vehicle having been recently stolen from a Stanthorpe address. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle on the New England Highway, The Summit, however, the vehicle failed to stop.
Police from Warwick station were able to successfully deploy a tyre deflation device, bringing the vehicle to a stop on the outskirts of Warwick.
Two offenders fled from the vehicle on foot but were later located nearby and arrested. A 16-year-old Stanthorpe male was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and a 17-year-old Stanthorpe male was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, evading police, receiving stolen property and three unlawful entry of motor vehicle offences, which had occurred in Stanthorpe on August 4-5.
As a result of this arrest, the 16-year-old male was later interviewed by police and charged with 20 property related offences including wilful damage, stealing, unlawful entry of motor vehicle, burglary with breaking and entering premises and committing an indictable offence.
Stanthorpe Police also executed a search warrant at a Stanthorpe address on August 5 in relation to these property offences. Police recovered a laptop computer and torch, which had been stolen from a vehicle in Stanthorpe earlier in the week.
A 14-year-old Stanthorpe male was later dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act for two drug offences and nine property offences, including unlawful entry of motor vehicle, wilful damage and stealing.
