Time to apply for community grants

Round 1 of the Southern Downs Regional Council’s General Grants program opened for applications on Monday.
The Grants to Community Organisations – General Grants Program focuses on supporting local initiatives, local organisations, and events that enhance community wellbeing and opportunity.
The response to the General Grants program for 2010/2011 was considerable, with over 70 community organisations seeking assistance through the program.
Mayor Ron Bellingham offered high praise for the many groups within the region which provide services and activities that benefit the regional community.
“Through this grants program, Council is able to acknowledge the tremendous value of strong community groups, community initiatives and events to the social and economic well-being of our region,” Cr Bellingham said.
The Grants to Community Organisations – General Grants Program offers assistance under the following categories:
n Monetary Donation – Sponsorship up to $150
n Monetary Donation – Capital Project up to $500
n Fee Relief – Certain Council Statutory Fees up to $1000
n Fee Relief – Council Disposal fees for garbage produced at an event conducted by a Community Group  up to $ 500.
Application forms are available from Council offices and libraries, or by telephoning Council in Warwick (4661 0300) or Stanthorpe (4681 5500). Applications must be received by close of business on Friday, September 9, 2011 and may be lodged in person at Council offices, or posted to the Chief Executive Officer, Southern Downs Regional Council, PO Box 26, Warwick.
