Rotary District Governor shares vision for change

The Warwick Rotary morning club, Warwick Sunrise, recently hosted District Governor Graham Jones at their Thursday morning meeting.
Mr Jones spoke about the need for Rotarians to recognise their strengths as mentors and in mentoring.
“Rotary is about getting out and helping others,” he said.
He quoted Mahatma Ghandi, saying, “We must be the change that we want to see in the world” and said that this applies to Rotarians as part of Rotary as well as all of us.
The role of District Governor is to manage 54 clubs and their members in the area, bounded by Glen Innes, Grafton, Goondiwindi and the Gold Coast. It is a one-year full-time appointment.
In his professional career, Mr Jones was a Mathematics Professor and the first Pro Vice Chancellor of Griffith University at the Gold Coast.
His aim is to make local Rotary clubs “more visible, vibrant and attractive”.
Rotary is the largest of the service clubs worldwide with more than 1.2 million members. Globally, it takes on large challenges, a recent example being a major contributor in the eradication of polio.
At a local level, Rotary clubs comprise of 20 to 30 members, who meet weekly and provide support to the local community.
