Going pink for a good cause

Ballandean mushroom producers, Country Farm Fresh Mushrooms, entered into the spirit of the celebration of Go Pink in October fundraising for breast cancer.
Last year they raised almost $1000 and, with funds still being counted, they are hoping to equal or better that amount this year.
Staff at Country Farm Fresh Mushrooms listened intently as local identity Rosey Harslett told of her battle against breast cancer and her survival against the odds.
Mrs Harslett was a guest speaker at the farm as part of the Australian Mushroom Growers Association’s (AMGA) Mushrooms Go Pink in October fundraising and awareness campaign.
New harvest manager Julia Mercer said it was the second year the farm had participated and it won’t be the last.
The AMGA supports breast cancer every October with pink boxes and pink logo polo shirts. The local mushroom producers were hoping to make this an annual fundraiser.
The staff and community have been supportive.
“It’s so positive how people have embraced it. I’m impressed with what people have donated,” Ms Mercer said.
“We have had numerous raffles and a decorated bra competition and pink morning teas,” she said.
