H&J Social Club winds up a big 2011

At Christmas the Horse & Jockey Social Club Inc finished off a big 2011 with donations of $5267 being distributed to charities.
Since incorporation in 1998 more than $22,000 has been donated, mainly to local organisations. President Archie Gillam feels it is not a bad effort by a few committee members and regulars who get together for fundraising, sport and social interaction.
The Friday night raffles are generously supported by Gary and Jo Lawrence of the Horse & Jockey Hotel along with Eagle Boys Pizza, Percy’s Fruit Market and Harvey Norman Electrical and Computers.
Major donations in 2011 have gone to Akooramak, St Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army, Warwick Flood Appeal, Blue Care, Care Flight, Angel Flights and a mighty $1760 to Movember raised primarily by the club’s social director Tony Hausfeld.
Mr Gillam feels this could not have happened without the generous support of their team of ticket sellers who donate their time and also the great support the club get from the patrons of the H&J Hotel. He is looking forward to a big 2012 for the club when it re-convenes in February, after a well-deserved break, and encourages new visitors to the H&J on Friday nights to support the club’s activities.
