Into the beat

A Wintersong Drumming workshop held in Tenterfield at the weekend proved a positive turnout for all concerned.
The Joblink Plus-funded “Beat Camp Project” was designed to encourage musical interest, build skills and involve community participation.
A great mix of people, young and old, thoroughly enjoyed the process led by Byron-based provider Rhythm Connections.
Local indigenous elders, Bruce McIntosh and Darren Daly, added to the share of musical culture.
The day was preparation for the forthcoming Wintersong Carnival Street Parade on June 23. Participants are keen to continue rehearsals in the event lead-up.
They also learned how to make percussion instruments from recycled materials.
Organisers say there will be regular opportunities to get involved in music and arts coming up soon. Check the carnival website www.wintersong.org.au to find out more or call (02) 6736 1305.
