Symphony Hill a champion at NSW Show

Symphony Hill Wines are celebrating winning three trophies at this year’s New England Wine Show for their latest release – 2009 Reserve Petit Verdot.
The trophies now displayed in their cellar door are for Best Alternative Red Wine, Best Red Wine and Champion Wine of the Show.
Owner, Ewen Macpherson said, “It’s wonderful that one of our Strange Bird alternative grape varieties have had such success.
“It’s a sign of the times that a grape variety other than Shiraz or Chardonnay is awarded Champion Wine of the Show trophy.
“The Australian wine industry has matured magnif-icently over the last 30 years and the current evolution of fabulous wine experiences are in the area of new alternative varieties.
“There are hundreds of new flavour and aroma experiences in our future. Our Reserve Petit Verdot introduces complex flavours like dark chocolate, licorice and wild fruits of the forest and is a big purple monster,” he said.
Symphony Hill wine club members will be pinching themselves, as every member will receive a bottle of the 2009 Reserve Petit Verdot in their latest wine club delivery for just $20 as part of their Spring six pack.
“This is our first year of entering the New England Wine Show and they have us at hello!
“The quality of the judging matches anything in Australia and has attracted the best of the best judges each year, with James Halliday, Huon Hooke and Rob Geddes as Chair of Judging for the last three years,” he said.
The presentation dinner served all local produce and wines from New England and the Granite Belt, including fresh water trout, venison and wagyu steak.
Ewen Macpherson, along with wife Elissa and parents, Bob and Jill, established the vineyard in 1999.
“The Granite Belt is the promised land of viticulture, with elevations ranging from 1000m down to 600m.
“There are some mind blowing wines being made here on the Granite Belt by small producers like ourselves and we are so proud to be Queenslanders!”
