Teacher development tackles bullying

Teachers from the School of Total Education experienced a professional development program with a difference last week, when musician Lorin Nicholson visited the school to present as part of the school’s regular teacher development program.

“It was real life experience,” said teacher John Cosgrove

“He talked about his life and the lessons he had learned, in a very practical way.”

Those lessons, according to Mr Cosgrove, included the experience of bullying and how to counter it, how to encourage children and help them overcome difficulties and the idea of sacrifice in order to achieve growth.

Principal Shane Power said the school was placing a big emphasis on the personal development of our teachers as it is through their example and their relationship with the students that learning really happens.

“Lorin’s presentation was a part of a broader program aimed at our teachers refining themselves and continuing to develop the qualities which will enhance their teaching, MR Power said.

“This is in addition to strengthening their grasp of the subject matter they teach, which is also important.”
