Science set in stone

GRADE 2 students from The School of Total Education were so inspired by a recent tour of Warwick’s beautiful sandstone buildings they decided to create their very own Town Hall replica in the classroom.

The enthusiasm towards building the two-storey box construction was lifted again when the Year 10 science students decided to lend a hand by helping their younger peers to “wire up” their replica and give the model even more life.
This idea just happened to coincide with Science Week in which schools throughout the country celebrate ‘A Century of Australian Science.’
“What better way to explore science than to learn about energy and power with one of your very own creations coming to life with electronic door bells and working lights both inside and out,” SOTE Principal Shane Power said.
Mr Power said the students were very grateful to their Year 10 science buddies and had taken on some of their tips with repair work to wires, batteries and connections already.
“One of the biggest lessons learned through this project was how something very beautiful can be achieved by working together,” he said.
“And the discussions, the co-operation, the listening to others and working together was as beautiful to observe as the actual artwork itself.”
