NRA finals rodeo action at Stanthorpe Saturday

The National Rodeo Association (NRA) 2019 National Finals Rodeo (NFR) series comes to the Stanthorpe for the first time in history with the Stanthorpe Campdraft and Rodeo Sub-Committee hosting Round 2 this Saturday 16 November at the picturesque Stanthorpe Showgrounds.

Round 1 returned to the Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park last Saturday 9 November 2019 and Round 3 will return to the home of the NRA at the Caboolture Showgrounds on Saturday 23 November for the finale.

The NFR is the National Rodeo Association’s championship event and is considered one of Australia’s premier rodeos.

The NFR, held in November each year, is part of the NRA’s richest and most prestigious rodeo series. The champions are determined based on season points in addition to points from the NFR.

The NFR showcases the NRA’s best cowboys, cowgirls, juniors and livestock.

Each November the top 12 contestants in the Bull Ride, Saddle Ride, Bareback Ride, Steer Wrestling, Rope and Tie, Team Roping, Barrel Race, Breakaway Roping, Steer Undecorating, U18 Junior Bull Ride, U18 Junior Barrel Race, U18 Junior Breakaway Roping, U15 Junior Steer Ride and U12 Poddy Ride qualify to compete at the NFR.

Qualification is based on season points from the NRA standings for that year.

The superstars competing at the NFR will include…

• Cooyar QLD cowboy Jack McArthur who is looking to make history by becoming the first man to ever win six NRA Bull Ride titles. Even more amazing is the fact that if successful he will make it six in a row.

• Lockyer Waters QLD cowboy Jack Capewell is also looking to win his fifth Saddle Ride title in a row, and sixth overall, to also become the most successful cowboy in history in this event.

The animal athletes at the NFR will also be some of the best in the business with Bucking Bull of the Year contender “Big Bang Theory” from Athol QLD Hall Rodeo set to star. Hall Rodeo, along with Honky Tonk Rodeo from Killarney QLD, will also supply the bucking horses at Maryborough and Stanthorpe.

They will feature Bucking Horse of the Year contenders “Electric Chair” and “Blue Dee” from Hall Rodeo and “Pearly Blues” and “Golden Rereat” from Honky Tonk.

Gates open at the Stanthorpe Showgrounds at 3pm this Saturday and the action starts from 5pm.

Bar and canteen will be operating (EFTPOS and ATM available) along with Mechanical Bull, jumping castle, facepainting and stalls.

The event will be the first National Rodeo Association National Finals event to be held at the newly-refurbished Showgrounds arena, with the Stockmans Bar and Canteen also available for venue hire for functions all year round. (Enquiries – 0428 195 202)
