John Farnham admitted to hospital with cancer

Legendary Australian singer John Farnham was admitted to hospital for surgery earlier this week after being diagnosed with cancer.

The 73-year-old performer’s family released a statement confirming the cancer diagnosis and ongoing treatment.

“Cancer diagnosis is something that so many people face every single day, and countless others have walked this path before me,” Farnham said.

“The one thing I know for sure is that we have the very best specialist healthcare professionals in Victoria, and we can all be grateful for that. I know I am.”

It was stated that doctors were confident they could remove all the cancerous cells.

Nine Year Sister release new single

Nine Year Sister has dropped a new single, titled Lead Me Home.

The duo stated the song is about hope and the spark that someone or something can put back inside of you when you’re feeling a little lost.

“The glimmer of hope, something bigger pulling you through, leading you home.”

The song is available to purchase on Bandcamp and will be on streaming services soon.

Maisie Peters goes from Blonde to Good Enough

Maisie Peters released her new single Good Enough last week, pivoting from her angry strength on Blonde to devastating sadness.

Peters said it’s a song about trying so hard and falling so short, about the incredulous and then sinking realisation that once again, you have given your best and it is simply not good enough.

Good Enough is available to stream now.

Ezra Miller apology

The Star of the upcoming DC film The Flash, Ezra Miller, has been arrested for a string of criminal activity including assault and abuse allegations and has since released a statement apologising for his actions.

The film is still scheduled for released release despite Warner Discovery’s new tactic that has involved cancelling numerous shows and movies.

In a statement, Miller said the following:

“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” he said.

“I want to apologise to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour.

“I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”

Academy apology to Sacheen Littlefeather

In June of this year, then Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Science president David Rubin issued an apology letter to Sacheen Littlefeather, whose speech at the 1973 Oscars (she appeared on behalf of best-actor-winner Marlon Brando) incited racial hatred towards her.

The Apache activist condemned “the treatment of American Indians today by the film industry”.

Littlefeather’s presence was met with a mix of applause and booing – John Wayne for instance had to be physically restrained from charging onstage.

The letter will be read in full at a 17 September Academy Museum event honouring her.

The letter read: “The abuse you endured because of this statement was unwarranted and unjustified, the emotional burden you have lived through and the cost to your own career in our industry are irreparable.”

“For too long the courage you showed has been unacknowledged. For this, we offer both our deepest apologies and our sincere admiration.”

Remaking Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz is set to hit the big screen again, with Black-ish creator Kenya Barris attached to write and direct a remake for Warner Bros.

Not many details on the project have been realised, but reportedly the movie will be a modern reimagining.

This comes on the coattails of another Wizard of Oz remake being announced, with Watchmen’s Nicole Kassell attached.

Kassell’s version is for Warner Bro’s New Line division.

Amandla Stenberg x critic

Amandla Stenberg has come to blows with New York Times critic Lena Wilson after Wilson published a review of Stenberg’s film Bodies Bodies Bodies, referring to it as a “95-minute advertisement for cleavage”.

Sternberg DM’ed the critic on Instagram after the review was published, stating the review was great but that “maybe if you had gotten ur (sic) eyes off my tits you could’ve watched the movie”.

Wilson then published the DM, stating she was “devastated” by it, then reportedly made now-deleted tweets suggesting that Stenberg’s message was homophobic. Both Stenberg and Wilson are gay.

Wilson captioned a Tik Tok about the situation: “Unfathomably weird to get “i don’t want you in the locker room while i’m changing” bullying from a whole other lesbian.

Stenberg followed this up with a post to their social media, stating that they were making a joke in the DM, but that they are also tired of getting comments about their chest.

Bodies Bodies Bodies will be in cinemas on 15 September.
