The second season of Fate: The Winx Saga landed on Netflix last week, and it shows the team behind the series is finding their groove.

In this season, students return to school under a new leader in Headmistress Rosalind. When fairies start to go missing, students will have to work together to stop a new evil before it wreaks havoc on the entire Otherworld.

This season saw one more episode added to the runtime than the last season had, but feels like far more is packed into the runtime than the one extra episode.

There are pros and cons to this added content, with it sometimes feeling like you’re burning through new information a little too quickly. At times it feels a bit too much like they’re trying to throw you off, when they could just focus on writing more tightly so things are more of a surprise.

Protagonist Bloom, played by Abigail Cowan, suffers a bit this season in the character development department while other characters are given room to grow. The season’s ending, though, promises that she’ll get some serious development in future.

As a whole, the season is a promising continuation from season one.

While season one was a success, there were some things criticised by viewers such as the whitewashing of characters and the plot not being true enough to its source material.

They’ve definitely corrected some of these issues in the new season, with characters like Flora introduced.

As someone who watched the animated series as a kid, it’s exciting to see them drawing new things from the source material such as relationship dynamics. The finale of the season gave those who watched the original series hope that we might see a fair few other things included in season three if the show gets renewed.

Overall, it feels like more care was put into this season. If that care is kept up with any future seasons, the show has some serious promise.
