Booklovers rejoice in February

February 14 is a day for lovers - of books.

Fall in love with reading

February 14 is a day that celebrates love and since 2006 the day has also including falling in love with Libraries.

Celebrated around the world these days, Library Lovers Day originated in Australia in the mid 2000s.

It was kicked off by the NSW State Library in 2006 and by the following year it was picked up by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), eventually finding a market overseas as well.

It is a day for book lovers to count the many wonders of local libraries and to come on down and check out what is happening.

It is also a great way that single people, who often feel left out of Valentines Day, can enjoy and celebrate February 14 in a way that appeals to everyone – with a good book.

Since 2017 the day has had its own theme with Libraries around Australia being able to decorate and theme their facilities too suit.

This year the theme is “Only You” giving plenty of room for the libraries including those in the Southern Downs and Granite Belt.

The event is embraced at libraries across Australia and to find out just what is happening in their own libraries and to join in the theme.

As well as celebrating their love of libraries and reading, library members can come along, join in the fun or even volunteer to help.

While the libraries and all of the services they offer is at the top of the list of things you can learn about and do in the Southern Downs Regional Council libraries it is also a chance to check out all of the new and amazing things the libraries are doing.

An it’s not all about books, as well as checking out the books and getting a chance to see what programs are available, visitors to the Southern Downs will also have a chance to check out some brand you magazines.

The library has some new magazine titles in their collection and are highlighting Australian ones in particular on our library catalogue/

Library members also have access to 4425 emagazine titles from around the world via Libby. Library member’s Libby account allows 3 titles to be borrowed for up to 21 days.
