Well, that’s unfortunate!

Performers’ stage names can sometimes be unfortunate.

Channel Seven local news recently encouraged viewers to attend a blues music concert at a Toowoomba boutique brewery.

Viewers were invited to come and drink great beer and watch talented musician Sean P.

Mixed message

Have you heard of semiotics?

No, it’s not penicillin for truck drivers.

Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols and their use or interpretation.

Sometimes they can accidently clash to create a mixed message.

For example, Warwick’s well-loved Roses Chinese restaurant in 45 Wood St is currently celebrating the Lunar New Year of the Rabbit.

But right across the road at number 26 is the absolute opposite of rabbit joyfulness . . . . . the office of the Darling Downs Moreton Rabbit Board.

What’s in a name?

Calling all old-time locals. Can you please help newbies with place pronunciation?

Do we call Leyburn “Lee- burn” or “Lay-burn”?

Is Goomburra “GoomBURRA” or “GOOMbra”?

You can’t go wrong with pronouncing Yangan or Killarney but I’ve heard Swanfels called SWANfels and SwanFELS – each by people who live there.

A favourite

A favourite is Allora. Can’t you just hear the accordions, see the red-checked table covers, and the candle in a raffia chianti bottle when you hear the town pronounced “A-Laura”?

Wasn’t me!

Who’s been a naughty magpie then?

Look at the twisted street lamp and look at his hunched and guilty “It wasn’t me!” expression.

Thank you to champion photographer Gale Ward for this hilarious shot, taken when she and her walking buddies were out for their early morning constitutional around the Condamine River in Warwick.

You’ll be pleased to know Maggie is innocent

The damage was caused when a tall tree toppled over the walking trail.

Whoops!

Our Line Dancing story last week told readers the event on 25 February with 100 dances over a seven hour period will be at St Mark’s Hall in Wood St. That hall, as we all know, is in Grafton St.
