ArtWorks celebrates the light

The ArtWorks garden area.

By Artworks Granite Belt Committee

ArtWorks is the venue for many artistic practices and workshops. The recent leadlight workshop tutored by Owen Ronalds has culminated in a lovely new window bringing new and colourful light into the Heritage Station Café.

All of the spaces managed by ArtWorks can be used by the public. In the past they have hosted U3A, Stanthorpe Chamber of Commerce, Ecofest and Apple & Grape activities.

They encourage craft groups and foster many art forms such as dyeing and cardmaking, providing easily accessible spaces which are disability friendly. It is all part of the creative atmosphere at the station.

The gardens, lovingly tended by Barbara and her team, have recently welcomed participants from SDIEA who assisted the big clean-up around the QFS building – it is now looking much more welcoming and cared for. Over successive seasons, the garden team have worked their magic to give the community the picturesque gardens on Davadi Street, transforming a once derelict site.

The bardens boast a bocce court and you can play pickleball on site as well. The canopy and gardens are available spaces for functions – patrons have held weddings and photoshoots there, with easy access and a lovely backdrop. The vintage feel of the site appeals to many.

Volunteers are welcome to come along and join the team, there are many ways in which people can become involved; gardeners, maintenance crew, minute taker for meetings, filing tasks, table service, barista and cooking are all necessary tasks for ArtWorks’ volunteers year-round, and they too need a break at times. So, if you have some time to spare, ArtWorks can offer a friendly environment and experiences you won’t get anywhere else. Call 0438 845 624 for any information.
