Toowoomba’s RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a man to hospital after he suffered a gunshot wound to the chest in a hunting incident in the Leyburn area last night, Saturday 12 January.
A statement issued by LifeFlight said the man, aged in his twenties, was reportedly climbing off a quad bike when another person in the group accidentally discharged a firearm.
“The bullet struck the victim on the left side of his chest,” the statement said.
“Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics initially treated the patient, before the rescue chopper landed on the scene, just after 9:30pm (Saturday night).
“The man was airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious, but stable condition, under the care of LifeFlight’s critical care doctor and paramedic.
“The rescue crew said the patient was able to talk to his wife, who was also on the scene, before takeoff.
“The 2017-2018 financial year was a record year for LifeFlight for lifesaving missions with its aeromedical crews, community helicopters and Air Ambulance jets performing a record 5,452 missions throughout Queensland and around the world.
“LifeFlight is a community-based charity funded and supported by the LifeFlight Foundation.”
