A bushfire in Girraween National Park is continuing to burn and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advises residents in the affected area to keep up to date and decide what actions they will take if the situation changes.
In a statement released a short time ago today, Thursday 14 February, QFES said the bushfire is burning in Girraween National Park between Wallangarra and Eukey.
“This fire is burning in a north-westerly direction through Girraween National Park,” the statement said.
“The fire is producing large amounts of smoke from the New South Wales border to Eukey.
“This smoke is particularly affecting Wallangarra, Ballandean and Eukey.
“People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.
“Properties are not under direct threat at this time.
“As this fire is also burning across the border into New South Wales, the New South Wales Rural Fire Service has issued a separate warning advising residents south of the border with information specific to them. Visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/ for more information.
“Queensland residents are advised to follow warnings issued by QFES.
“Water bombing aircraft will be operating throughout the day.”
QFES said remotely-piloted drones should not be flown near the fire while these water bombing aircraft are in operation.
“Crews will be working throughout the day constructing firebreaks and will continue to monitor the fire,” the QFES statement said.
