Warwick and Stanthorpe residents can expect some rain activity over the next few days according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), with showers and storms predicted for both regions.
BOM forecaster Annabelle Ford told the Free Times today, Thursday 14 March, that a surface trough to the west of the wider Darling Downs region is pushing an “unstable” air mass to the east which could result in severe storms later today across the Southern Downs and Granite Belt.
She said storms today could be accompanied by damaging winds and possible hail.
“The Downs as a whole is potentially within that severe storm area today,” Annabelle said.
“Storms are on the cards for the Warwick and Stanthorpe areas and the current system with the warm and unstable air mass could see some showers and storms across the weekend and possibly even into Monday as well.”
BOM is forecasting a maximum daytime temperature for Warwick tomorrow, Friday, of 32 degrees and 29 in Stanthorpe, and maximums in the high 20s for Warwick over the weekend and in the mid 20s for Stanthorpe.
The official BOM rainfall recorded so for in March for Warwick is 0.8mm and 2.7mm for Stanthorpe.
