Netball champion Laura Geitz and Rugby League legend Wayne Bennett have been jointly named as Allora’s first ‘Sporting Immortals’ as part of this weekend’s 150 year celebrations of ‘The Best Little Town on the Downs”.
The announcement was made yesterday, Saturday 20 July, as part of a ‘Roll Call of Allora’s Sportsmen and Sportswomen’ at the Commercial Hotel.
League great Shane Webcke was on hand to assist with the formalities and was joined by Greg Platz and Allora Sports Museum president Perry Cronin.
At the time the announcement was made Laura Geitz was preparing to give birth to her second child, while Wayne Bennett was in Townsville preparing for last night’s Cowboys versus Rabbitohs clash in Round 18 of the NRL.
They were represented yesterday by Laura Geitz’s mother Juanita Geitz and Wayne Bennett’s brother Bob Bennett.
