Condamine close to ‘minor’ flood level

The pedestrian bridge at the Queens Park weir in Warwick this morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a flood warning for the Condamine River to Warwick today, Sunday 9 February.

As of 10am today the river at the O.O. Madsen Bridge is at just under 2.3 metres below the bridge with the flood status still classed at ‘below minor’ but the level is expected to reach the ‘minor’ level later this morning.

More than four inches of rain have fallen in parts of the Condamine and associated catchments in the last 24 hours and more rain is forecast although at this stage it is unclear as to the likely severity of further flooding.

The Condamine at Murrays Bridge just east of Warwick is well over the ‘moderate’ flood at six metres.

Comment is being sought from the Southern Downs Regional Council as to potential measures in the event of more serious flooding.
