Election update, Sunday evening…

Vic Pennisi has slightly increased his lead over Tracy Dobie in the mayoral vote – a portion of postal votes has been counted today, Sunday 29 March, but that count will continue tomorrow.

Pennisi is on 8974 (44.73%), Dobie is on 7254 (36.15%) with just under 80 per cent of the mayoral vote counted by the end of today. The possibility of a preference distribution from the other two mayoral candidates – Peter Kemp and Joe Doepel – remains open. Kemp is on 2866 (14.28%) and Doepel on 970 (4.83%).

Vic Pennisi told the Free Times tonight he does not expect the mayoral vote to be ‘declared’ by the Electoral Commission of Queensland for several days as yet and is not claiming victory. Tracy Dobie was unavailable for comment this evening.

For the councillors here are the current standings as of close of counting today for the leading contenders, with around 80 per cent of the councillor vote counted – bearing in mind a large number of ‘pre-poll’ votes from the Stanthorpe area are yet to be counted, along with postals –

Ross Bartley 7175

Sheryl Windle 6509

Marco Gliori 6426

Jo McNally 6403

Andrew Gale 5810

Cameron Gow 5736

Cynthia McDonald 5720

Rod Kelly 5555

Glyn Rees 5518

Julia Keogh 5291

Yve Stocks 5233

Russell Wantling 4622

Stephen Tancred 4454

Like the mayoral vote, a formal ‘declaration’ of the final eight councillors could also be several days away – one unknown factor is the number of electors who did not turn up to vote at all, either pre-poll or on election day itself. Some of those numbers will become clearer in the next couple of days…
