COVID-19 regional update, Saturday 18 April

The only active COVID-19 cases in the Darling Downs Health region of Queensland Health are in Toowoomba, as of today, Saturday 18 April.

Of the regional cases so far confirmed 25 have recovered.

The latest bulletin issued by Darling Downs Health earlier this afternoon states the region’s case totals – including those who have recovered – is as follows –

• Toowoomba 33

• Oakey 4

• Kingaroy 2

• Mile 1

• Warwick 1

• Chinchilla 1

Queensland-wide as of yesterday, Friday, there were 560 active cases with 442 recoveries and five deaths.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said yesterday the number of new cases state-wide had been in “single figures for the seventh day in a row”.

While the Premier said that result was “very encouraging” the State Government was still formulating responses to COVID-19 on a “day by day, week by week, month by month proposition”.

Queensland state schools will still only be open for the children of essential services workers from this Monday when Term 2 commences.

Already calls have begun for community lockdowns to be lifted or partially eased in remote parts of the state where no COVID-19 transmission has been recorded but the state government has not foreshadowed any such easing of restrictions.
