Police say they are continuing to investigate the circumstances involving a traffic accident which claimed the life of Warwick business and community identity Greg Newey on Monday of this week.
Mr Newey died when his Porsche sedan was struck by a Ford utility at the intersection of Myall Avenue and Wood Street shortly before 4pm on Monday, 14 September.
His wife Beth was in the passenger seat of the Porsche and is currently in hospital in Brisbane recovering from serious injuries. She is understood to be in a stable condition but may require an extended stay in hospital.
As of today – Friday 18 September – police say no charges have yet been laid as a result of the fatal collision but forensic crash investigators are continuing their assessment.
A police statement issued on Monday said that at around 3.55pm “a Ford Falcon utility vehicle has travelled through the intersection of Myall Avenue and Wood Street and stuck a Porsche travelling along Wood Street”.
The Neweys’ vehicle was overturned by the force of the collision and a third vehicle, a Commodore sedan, was also struck. The driver of the Commodore received first aid at the scene.
Police said the 21 year old driver of the Falcon utility was initially hospitalised and has been this week “assisting police with their enquiries”.
Details of funeral arrangements for Mr Newey are as yet unavailable.
