Chance of more storms later today in Warwick region

The Killarney area is bracing for the possibility of more storms later today, Thursday 17 December, following torrential downpours on Wednesday in the Condamine Gorge.

Official falls at The Head and Carrs Lookout at the top of the Main Range in the 24 hours to 9am today recorded by BOM were 133mm and 102mm, but locals say there was close to 200mm in those areas overnight.

Tragically, a 69 year old Killarney man died on Wednesday night after his vehicle was swept away by floodwaters on a Condamine River Road property just outside Killarney, while he was attempting to move cattle to higher ground. His name has not been released by police.

The Condamine River through Killarney itself had subsided earlier today after residents and businesses had initially been concerned about the possibility of flash flooding in the town.

The river through Warwick has recorded a small ’below minor’ level rise during the course of this morning and the situation will continue to be monitored.The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast further showers and storms for the Warwick and Killarney areas later today, Thursday.
