Man charged with wounding, break and enter

A 19-year-old man has been charged and will front court tomorrow following an alleged string of offences – including wounding, break and enter, and attempted armed robbery – in Warwick and Killarney.

It is alleged that at just before 11.00pm on Friday 11 June, a 55-year-old woman “disturbed” a man stealing her white Triton ute from a Canning Street home in Warwick.

At about 7.00am, the 19-year-old man was allegedly found to be damaging a door in the laundry of an Albert Street home by a 66-year-old woman.

The young man was then allegedly seen to have entered a Bell Place home shortly after 8.00am, where he was allegedly “disturbed” by an 85-year-old woman and fled on food.

Shortly thereafter, at about 9.30am, a 31-year-old woman allegedly awoke to the 19-year-old attempting to enter her home by kicking in a door. It is believed she watched the man flee in a white Triton ute.

It is also alleged that the 19-year-old stole a phone and other property from a house on Acacia Avenue, which he later discarded at a Wantley Street address.

Yesterday afternoon, at around 1.30pm, police will allege the young man forced his way into a Mount Tabor Road home and demanded cash from a 75-year-old man who lived there.

The 19-year-old allegedly assaulted the 75-year-old resident, attacking him with a knife before fleeing in the ute.

The 75-year-old is said to have suffered a non-threatening cut to his chin.

Police said they then attempted to intercept the ute on Ailanthus Street in Killarney, but the driver allegedly sped off along Willow Street and continued to drive dangerously around Killarney.

“A short time after, following a short pursuit, police deployed a tyre deflation device and the ute came to a stop in Willow Street and the man was taken into custody,” a Queensland Police Service spokesperson said.

“He was subsequently charged with three counts of break and enter, one count each of attempted break and enter, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempted armed robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving, stealing, trespass and wounding.”

The 19-year-old man is due to appear in the Warwick Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Monday 14 June, and will remain in custody until then.

Police are urging witnesses or anyone with dash cam vision to come forward.
