Award winning artist, Annette Raff, is in town for the Jumpers and Jazz in July festival.

The art teacher is currently doing a residency at Picots Farm in Cunningham.

While at Picots Farm, Annette is finishing off two portrait entries, one for the Archibald Portrait Prize and the other for the Brisbane Portrait Prize.

Annette has a Bachelor of Fine Art and an Advanced Certificate in Art and Design.

She currently teaches design, watercolour, life drawing, and cyanotype printing.

Annette says “I have always been captivated by the creative process, intellectual challenge, and spontaneity of watercolours”.

Annette has operated her private art studio for 22 years. She has also been an artist in residence in Yorkshire (UK) and teaches three weekly art classes (including the Royal Queensland Art Society), along with tutoring various regional art workshops.

She says she encourages her students “to forget photo realism, pause and reflect upon the subject before creating an air of mystery, drama, and intrigue (what they leave out), as they see abstract and interlocking shapes, contrasting values, and patterns created by light and shade”.

“After all, the world is a collection of shapes and values.”

Annette is conducting three cyanotype workshops as part of the Jumpers and Jazz in July festival.

She describe the workshops as “creative and relaxed” and says participants can “explore the local environment and create your own beautiful artwork from a collection of abstract shapes using a historic photographic process producing a deep blue (cyan) print”.

The workshops will run on Sunday 18 July from 10:00am-2:00pm, on Tuesday 20 July from 10:00am-2:00pm, and on Thursday 22 July from 10:00am-2:00pm.

The price for these four hour workshops is $65 each, or $75 with lunch included, and materials will be supplied.

The workshops will be run at the Woolshed on Picot’s Farm at 3534 Leyburn-Cunningham Road, Cunningham.

You can book tickets online at www.eventbrite.com.au/o/annette-raff-art-30452944792.

During workshops, participants will complete at least three small cyanotype prints of their own to take home.
