Thanks to grant funding, Southern Downs Rifle Club has taken delivery of a new tractor.

The club received the grant through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.

They purchased their new tractor through Ray Bunch Machinery in Warwick, in conjunction with Pierpoint Motors in Stanthorpe.

The rifle club has in excess of 40 acres of land to look after, with both weed and fire control, and says a good reliable tractor is a must.

Mario Marina from Pierpoint Motors and James King from Ray Bunch Machinery delivered the tractor to the club, and James connected up the slasher and ensured that the chief operator, Dave Taylor, was familiar with all the workings.

The rifle range was built by the American Forces in 1942 and was used as a training range for both Australian and American troops during World War II .

It has been in use ever since.

The club currently has over 40 members and meets every Sunday morning shooting from 300 yards up to 600 yards.

New members are always welcome.

If you’d like to known any more information, call Margaret on 4666 1018 or just call in at the range on a Sunday morning from 8:30am.

The Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) is Queensland’s largest one-off community grants program and distributes approximately $60 million each year to not-for-profit community groups.

The GCBF allocates funding to these groups to help them provide services, leisure activities and opportunities for Queensland communities.

The GCBF has multiple funding rounds each year with funding limits between $500 and $35,000. The closing dates for the next round is 31 October.

Starting next year, there will be changes to the GCBF funding program.

Instead of five, there will be four funding rounds.

Three of these rounds will have funding of up to $35,000 available, while one “super round” will have up to $100,000 of funding available.
