Change the date

2022 should be the last year Australia Day is celebrated on the 26th January. While politicians make a big deal of saying “sorry” to the aboriginal people, they really cry crocodile tears, because we continue to commemorate the 26th January, 1788 when the dispossession and slaughter of our first nation residents began.

No doubt our parliamentary leaders are reluctant to take an honourable stand on this issue, fearing a loss of support at the ballot box of the many racist rednecks in the community.

Quite often we hear aboriginals should “get over it and move on” so too should we forget about celebrating on the 26th January but rather regard it as a day of shame.
