From Tuesday 22, reported cases of Covid-19 in the Southern Downs have increased by 57, up from 50 the week before.

Prior to that, we saw a decrease from 121 the previous week and around 200 the two weeks prior to that.

Since last Friday, 48 new case have been reported.

A total of 1,242 cases were reported in the region today, with eight new cases.

Cases have gone up on average by around eight cases per day, up from around seven per day the week before but down from 17 and 27 in January and the start of February.

5,440 new case were reported Queensland-wide today, bringing the state’s total cases to 555,287 – 33,292 are active.

There were seven deaths reported in the past 24 hours, and 350 people are in hospital.

Hospital numbers have drastically decreased in the last month, with numbers in the 300s and 400s being reported down from the 800s and 900s earlier this month.

As of Tuesday, 36,937 new cases of Covid-19 were reported statewide in the past week, down from 43,918 the week before and almost 50,000 and 70,000 in weeks prior to that.

Hospitalisations have decreased slightly in the past week, with 462 recorded last on Tuesday 15 February and 394 announced at the time of print.

There were 83 deaths recorded people from the virus in the last week, in comparison to ninety-one the week before.

This does include some historical data, with a more accurate estimation of around 50-60 deaths.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced a major easing of Queensland’s Covid-19 restrictions on Tuesday 22 February, including the statewide mask mandate.

From 6 pm on Friday March 4, masks will no longer be required in most indoor settings, including workplaces, schools, shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs.

They will continue to be required on public transport and in rideshares, as well as when visiting airports, prisons and disability and aged care settings.

Density limits will no longer apply to weddings, funerals or the number of people allowed at homes.

Food courts, hairdressers, gyms, private venue hire and universities also will no longer be subject to density restrictions.

Bans on visitors to schools, school excursions and assemblies will also be lifted.

From the first week of March, daily Covid press conferences will end however, data will still be released.
