Mont Cory's Military Cross, Bar, and medals.

On Monday morning, Warwick’s Cory family relived some of their history in the form of World War I medals and the story of how William Montague ‘Mont’ Cory achieved them over 100 years ago.

According to Margot Cory, Mont was her late husband’s Uncle and the medals were passed down to him after his older sibling passed away.

This history has been preserved and is now displayed at the Warwick RSL.

RSL representative John Telfer said that the veteran had won the Military Cross in 1917 and later the Bar to that Cross in 1918, among other awards in the collection.

“It was for his gallantry and outstanding duty in the French Campaign in Belgium,” John said.

Margot and David’s son Ben alongside his children Angus and Annie presented John with the medals, the latter on behalf of Warwick RSL president John Skinner.
