Former SOTE student talks to seniors

It was lovely to have former student, writer Emily Bitto visit the school last week. Emily spent time with the seniors answering their questions about transitioning to the city and reassuring them that the school’s emphasis about valuing yourself helps in finding what to do in life.

Emily initially studied psychology but after that realised that she really was interested in literature, going on to get her masters then doctorate in creative writing. Emily has since published two highly acclaimed novels and the students were impressed to hear that to support herself while she writes she has set up and owns two café/wine bar in inner-city Melbourne!

Year 9 Discovery then appreciated having their own creative writing masterclass with Emily as she took them for session on discovering yourself. It was also nice to see past deputy principal, Mrs Judy Currie back at school to catch up with Emily.
