On Monday, Warwick resident Sarah Vidler was alerted to a truck incident on Wood Street after the driver suffered a medical episode while on the road.

Sarah said she was at her mum’s place of work, Pies on Wood, when she heard a loud bang.

“Across the road, the truck had gone up on the kerb so I followed him in my car,” she said.

“The truck was swerving all up Wood Street past the Akooramak – it was a car carrier and had two cars on top.”

After yelling to get the driver’s attention with a plan to merge in front of him to alert traffic, Sarah said the truck drove off the road and got bogged.

“I pulled over as well and saw he still had a foot on the accelerator,” she said.

“I opened the door and turned off the truck and the driver was sweating and wasn’t with it.”

Sarah said she initially could not find a pulse, so she resuscitated him.

“I have no first aid training – my legs were shaking and I thought he was going to die,” she said.

However, Sarah said Warwick police arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later after receiving a call from Sarah’s mother.

“The police first told me to keep doing what I was doing then they took over,” she said.

“I waited around until the ambulance came.”

Warwick Police acting officer-in-charge Sergeant Cameron Slater said there were no injuries or collisions with oncoming traffic, which included the truck avoiding an accident with a Sedan.

“The lady driving that car came into the station and was pretty shaken up,” Sergeant Slater said.

Furthermore, he said the driver was subsequently taken to Warwick Hospital.

However, the hospital said they were unable to provide an update on his condition.

To follow up on the incident, Sarah said she tried to visit the driver to check on his well-being.

“I just hope he’s okay,” she said.

As a result, there are tyre marks on Wood Street and tracks on the pathway diagonal to Pies on Wood where the vehicle mounted the kerb.
