PARG app denied

Southern Downs Regional Council moved not to Gabrielle Trabucco’s Gymnast Proposal at the recent Ordinary Council Meeting, as recommended by a majority of the Public Art Reference Group (PARG).

‘The Gymnast’ application was presented at Council’s Ordinary Meeting held on Wednesday 23 May. Council deferred the matter and requested further information on Risk Management.

There was also a question on notice about a previous Council decision.

Apple & Grape Festival thank SDRC

A letter from Apple & Grape Harvest Festival President Russell Wantling was included in the correspondence at the recent Ordinary Council Meeting. In the letter, Russell thanked the Council for their support.

He stated that putting together an event such as the Apple and Grape Harvest Festival is challenging, due to the pressure to uphold the standard demonstrated by their forebears.

Russell stated that the Festival relies on the support of many businesses and organisations, and thanked the Council for being one of these supporters.

“Your generosity, the help of your staff and Councillors, in providing not only sponsorship but assistance in making the town welcoming for patrons, was gratefully received,” he wrote. “We certainly could not continue presenting a highly regarded festival program without the support of the Council and its many arms.”

“The Committee worked hard to secure the much-needed funding to conduct a festival of high calibre, including an excellent Open Gardens program, the iconic public grape crush, our multicultural festival in the park, the Italian Long lunch, the Mount Marley Fun Run, numerous food competitions and displays, markets, busking, wine tasting, orchard tours, the grand parade and many, many more activities over 10 days of the festival.”

Russell wrote that, despite some setbacks with the weather, 45 000 people attended the festival and experienced all that the Granite Belt has to offer.

S150

At the recent Ordinary Council Meeting, Southern Downs Regional Council approved a budget allocation in the 22/23 FY budget to support the continued marketing and promotion of S150 Events through the remainder of 2022.

They also moved that any marketing and promotion should be signed off and agreed to by the committee prior to its release.

In the S150 committee minutes tabled at the meeting, it was revealed that Jim Barnes had tendered his resignation and would no longer be involved in the committee.

The minutes did not provide details on this decision.
