State Government announces SunWater funding

Popular community recreation facilities at several dams and weirs in regional Queensland are in line for a makeover as part of a five-year, $24.5 million upgrade program.

Water Minister Glenn Butcher said the funding will allow for a range of improvements to significantly enhance more than a dozen recreation areas across the state.

“Our dams, weirs and lakes aren’t just to provide water supply, they’re centrepieces of tourism in many of these wonderful Queensland communities,” he said.

“The upgrades will ensure recreation areas meet community expectations, safety standards and accessibility requirements.

“They will also help to generate long-lasting economic and tourism benefits for local businesses.

The program of work will involve upgrading and maintaining lookouts, camping and toilet facilities, boat ramps for public use, playgrounds, barbeques, picnic shelters, sprinkler systems and access roads.

Upgrades will be undertaken at dams and weirs owned and operated by Sunwater, from St George in the state’s south, to Atherton in the far north.

Boost for small business with $15,000 grants on offer

Small businesses ready to take their business to the next level are being encouraged to apply for a grant up to $15,000 to help their business boost turnover, increase their workforce or improve their resilience.

Minister for Employment and Small Business Di Farmer said details of the next round of the popular Business Boost grants are now available with businesses able to register their interest in applying from 9 am on 12 August.

“For this round of the Business Boost grants, $2.5 million worth of grants are on offer to Queensland small businesses that are seeing positive growth and are looking to expand further,” Minister Farmer said.

To be eligible, small businesses need to employ less than 20 employees and have had a turnover between $300,000 and $600,000 in the last financial year.

Businesses will need to co-contribute at least 30 per cent of the total cost of their proposed project with grant funding paid to successful small businesses following completion of the project.
