Killarney RSL Sub-Branch to commemorate Vietnam Veterans Day

Killarney Cenotaph on Anzac Day this year.

Killarney RSL Sub Branch will hold a service at the Killarney Cenotaph on Thursday 18 August to commemorate Vietnam Veteran’s Day.

Killarney RSL Sub Branch president Jim Simons said Vietnam Veteran’s Day is held on the Anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, which occurred in 1966.

“It’s where we remember the sacrifices of those who died and say thank you to around 60,000 Australians who served during the 10 years of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War,” Jim said.

The Vietnam War was Australia’s longest military engagement of the 20th Century and is a day when we recognise all who served in Vietnam.

We honour those veterans who:

• lost their lives during battle

• returned home wounded, ill or injured

• lost their lives in the years since they returned

• still carry the physical and emotional scars of their service

We also pause to reflect on the impact of service on our veteran’s families.

The service will commence at 11am with Southern Downs Councillor Marco Gliori as guest speaker followed by refreshments at the Killarney RSL Sub Branch Hall.
