Local apple grower David McMahon may be is set to hit the silver screen next year, joining up for the Farmer Wants A Wife series on Channel Seven.

David has been chosen as one of the seven farmers in the running for next year’s season, which will be narrowed down to five after nominations from the public close.

David was born in Stanthorpe and has been here his whole life apart from going away for university.

His family has been part of the Pozieres community since the early 1900s.

In 1926, David’s grandfather Mr Clyde McMahon was transferred from Tummaville to Pozieres School.

For 18 years, Clyde taught at Pozieres and served the school longer than any other teacher.

During his years at Pozieres, Clyde also established an apple orchard.

David describes himself as “an outgoing person who likes to enjoy life while maintaining a focus on building a future on the farm”.

“I’ve always worked hard to achieve goals and have had a lot of fun along the way.

“I believe I have a positive outlook on life probably made all the better by a supportive genuine group of friends and family.”

When asked what makes him unique, David said “While I think everyone is unique, I think the pathway I took to right now probably has the biggest impact on who I am”.

“We worked from a young age so we always looked forward to holidays and developed a strong work ethic.

“Growing up we had about 100 backpackers come through the farm every year, which gave us a childhood of making friends all over the globe.

“It wasn’t all work though.

“As a family, we travelled all over the place as kids; trekking in Botswana, Cycling Vietnam, Kayaking Croatia, and many more adventures which in combination with the exposure to so many backpackers ignited a strong passion for exploring the world.

“After finishing school, I went on to study Civil Engineering at The University of Queensland, which is the industry I worked in until I was 27.

After this, I was in a position to take the first step in a lifelong plan to join my brother and parents to form the fourth generation for our family farm.”

David said he can’t properly say what kind of partner he’s looking for until he meets that person.

“However, characteristics that are important to me are things like a positive outlook, passionate about the things close to them, adventurous, kind and a little bit cheeky.”

David is looking for a partner around the same age as him, who is positive, passionate, and adventurous.

He is also looking for someone with strong friendships, and said “the most important feeling in a relationship is that light warm feeling when you are around someone”.

“This doesn’t mean there is never disagreements but generally life should be fun.

“It’s also very important to me that during life’s harder moments a relationship is strong enough to work forward as a team.

“Plenty of Laughter, Plenty of Smiles.”

David said he thinks he would be a very caring, fun and hardworking partner.

“I also like to think I’m open to working to make my partner’s own plans possible while working in with the farm.

“The only aspect of me that I can’t change is the location where the business will be based.”

As far as romantic gestures go, David likes to cook so often they include this or going somewhere special to enjoy the food and moment.

“I did record a cover accompanied with a video once which was probably the most daunting public romantic gesture I have done, but I think it paid off at the time.”

David prides himself on going about life with passion and said that for him, finding love is finding the ultimate teammate to do life with.

” The person who shares your world on a deeper level than anyone else.”
