Freestone Hall is seeking information on local soldiers for its ‘Saluting Their Service’ project.

The Hall held a research and information-gathering session on 28 August and may hold more in future.

They are asking community members with information on family from the Freestone district who served in the Australian Defence Force (WWI, WWII, and recent conflicts), or anyone interested in being a part of this research project, to get in touch and share their memories, documents, photographs, and more.

The information gathered will go towards the renovation of the memorial boards in Freestone Hall.

The project will also provide the community with a detailed resource on each of the servicemen and women identified from the district.

The Hall is renovating the memorial boards using funds from a grant secured earlier this year. The project will need to use these funds in just under a year.

Sue Keong said they are currently looking for more information on a number of soldiers found on Freestone’s Honour Board.

She said there are other soldiers not on the board that they would like to get information on, but the Honour Board is their starting point.

Contact Sue Keong on 0402 460 919 or Deborah Wheeler on 0414 852 492 for further information.
