Meet the quest entrants

Entrant: Lori Boyce

Reporter MELISSA COLEMAN caught up with Lori Boyce and Jasmine O’Neil, who have entered into the Ariat Warwick Rodeo and Pryde’s EasiFeed Gold Cup Campdraft Princess Quest.

Lori Boyce

Where are you from?

I am from Warwick.

Why did you decide to become a 2022 Princess Quest entrant?

I decided to become an entrant in the Junior Cowgirl quest because I think it is a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. It is also a great opportunity to be the face of the Warwick Show and Rodeo Society while promoting the Warwick Rodeo and Gold Cup.

How do you plan on achieving your fundraising goals?

Junior Cowgirls aren’t required to fundraise, so I did not take part in fundraising activities, however I have supported the fundraising activities of the Princess entrants.

What is your favourite part of the Rodeo?

My favorite part of the rodeo is seeing all the spectators come and enjoy all the live action. I also like watching the roping and barrel racing because they are events that both myself and my family are involved in.

What would you like to be when you leave school?

When I leave school, I would like to be a horse trainer that trains barre horses.

Jasmine O’Neil

Where are you from?

I’m a Warwick girl with all my family having lived on the Southern Downs for the majority of their life.

I am currently a student in year 7 at Scots PGC.

Why did you decided to become a 2022 Princess Quest entrant?

It’s a great way to support the community and the Warwick Rodeo, and prove to myself that my autism can’t stop me and my love of horses.

This would not have been possible for me without the support of Brent and Ruth at Cockatoo Park.

How do you plan on achieving your fundraising goals?

I have done a sausage sizzle fundraiser (selling raffle tickets and a $100 board) at Stanthorpe Repco on last Saturday 8 October and then on Sunday 9 October the Warwick RSL kindly supported me with a family friendly raffle which started at 11am.

It was a great opportunity to go out for a nice lunch with the family and to have the chance to win some great prizes donated by Repco, Clarke’s Bearing Centre, Bray’s Bees & Honey, Warwick RSL and Annie Leschke including spotlights, a chainsaw, honey, and vouchers.

I drew the raffles and $100 Board winners on Sunday evening and contacting the winners by phone.

What is your favourite part of the Rodeo?

My favourite part is watching all the exciting events especially the barrel racing and bull riding.

I also love seeing all the excited and happy faces and community spirit at the street parade.

What would you like to be when you leave school?

I’m interested in equine therapy and teaching kids and adults how to ride and care for horses. Equine therapy and horseriding has made a huge impact on my life and increasing my confidence and I want to be able to share that experience, and my love of horses, with others.
