When Little Tackers Childcare Centre needed five picnic tables for the play area and the style they wanted could only be sourced overseas, they engaged the skills of the local handymen from Warwick Men’s Shed.

The need for picnic tables soon led to the planning and creation of several pieces of playground equipment as well.

Balance beams, a tunnel, a bridge, and stepping stones, all made from timber were added to the playground near the toddler rooms.

Coordinator Keeley Adam said they were extremely happy with the quality of the work.

“The edges of the tables were routed and really safe for the children, we are very pleased,” Ms Adam said.

But the proof, they say is in the pudding, and when Ms Adam asked the children what they liked the best about it they answered, ‘they love to explore’.

President of the Men’s Shed Jeff Hart said the whole project took just over a month to complete.

“It was quite a complex project, but we are delighted with the outcome,” Mr Hart said.

The Warwick Men’s Shed welcome men of the area who would like to share camaraderie and skills with other men and assist in community projects.

The latest community offering is a Spring Sale with a sausage sizzle on Saturday 26 November from 7 am to 1 pm at the Shed on 29 Activity Street Warwick.
