I love building Airfix models

Working on our latest project.

By William Lister

For those who don’t know what Airfix models are they are small models of planes and tanks and ships and sometimes cars which you build with glue and then you paint them to look exactly like the real thing. And my favourites are the airforce planes and army tanks. There are lots of brands but Airfix are my favourite.

My brother Jeremy and me love building models so much with our grandfather Dan Dan because like all granddads he used to do models when he was a boy. And my dad used to build model planes with his grandfather who used to be a copilot in World War Two on Dakotas. So far I have done a Tiger 1 tank and Messerschmitt BF109 fighter which are both from World War Two.

And I’ve also done a Supermarine Spitfire fighter and at the moment I am working on a Russian World War Two tank called a T34 but one that has German markings because it was captured by the German Army from the Russians and they still used it because the Germans were running out of tanks.

My favourite part about building models is doing tanks and building the turret before you put it on the rest of the tank. I also like painting them but only when it is a thick coat of paint because otherwise it can be hard not to have brush marks. Dan Dan is good at making the paint look like a real tank that has been in battle.
