Mystery shrouds Yangan Pub with no beer

The Yangan Pub: Sold last August but still vacant.

By Amelia Willmer

This time last year, the state’s media were agog as a stalwart group of Yangan locals made a bid to form a Co-Op to buy their beloved local pub.

The group was on TV and in the state’s newspapers because their story struck such a chord with Dinky-Di Aussie culture. It was up there with Slim Dusty’s Pub With No Beer

Unfortunately, the townsfolks’ effort did not succeed and now, 12 months later, the pub’s future is still no clearer despite it being sold to a Brisbane company in August last year.

Repeated efforts to speak with the new owners have been unsuccessful.

According to reliable sources, the pub has been sold to two Brisbane businessmen who own a country and western-themed bar in Fortitude Valley.

Despite several requests for an interview, they have declined to comment or offer any information about plans for the pub.

At the time of going to press, they had still not made themselves available for comment.

As the Yangan pub sits closed into its second year of vacancy, locals who drive past it each day can’t help but wonder when, or if, it will ever re-open.
